Our Augmentative & Alternative Communication Youth Everywhere program provides youth ages 13-17 with real-world opportunities to use Augmentative or Alternative Communications (AAC) systems on fun community outings. Youth will also have an opportunity to share their experiences with family and friends on social media. All sessions are led by a speech-language pathologist, assistive technology specialist and an AAC user advisor who have experience using AAC to communicate as a teen.
Our youth program typically runs 2 times per year (fall and winter/spring) for 2 hours one Saturday per month. Each Saturday session involves a community outing to a different location such as a movie theater, mall, park, library, bowling alley or other Calgary attraction. Friends and family are welcome, but all minors must be accompanied by an adult to ensure safety and an optimal co-learning environment.
COVID-19 Update
As a precaution, AAC Youth Everywhere is currently being offered virtually via Zoom. Each session will have a fun theme and create opportunities for youth to communicate with peers and community members using AAC systems. There will also be opportunities to use social media to communicate with family and friends about the sessions.
Who it’s for
