We value the diverse skills and experiences that our practicum students and volunteers bring to Renfrew. Thanks to the time and dedication of these amazing individuals, we are able to do even more for the hundreds of students with disabilities who attend our schools each and every day.
Practicum Students
Practicum students from a variety of related post-secondary programs join us to gain practical on-the-job experience across different educational settings.
We pride ourselves on providing a welcoming learning environment for all practicum students. Our talented staff supports students to ensure each student has a meaningful and educational placement. This also means providing constructive, consistent, and continual feedback with both students and faculty.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities at Renfrew include planting and gardening, library support, fundraising, corporate Days of Caring, and (arguably our most popular volunteer role) in-classroom support. Under the guidance of our teachers, classroom volunteers assist children, help prepare educational materials, chaperone field trips, and participate in special class activities.
In order to provide a consistent presence for the children in our programs, we ask that individuals commit to volunteering at least once weekly for a period of 6 to 10 months. All volunteers must complete our screening process, which includes a Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Intervention Record Check with Alberta Children’s Services.
Corporate groups interested in volunteering are asked to contact us at renfrew@renfreweducation.org.
