Specialized Services Program

Renfrew’s Specialized Services Program is an intensive half-day program designed to help children improve their daily living skills at home and in the community. The program serves children ages 2 to 6 years old who are enrolled in Renfrew’s Early Childhood Services (ECS) program and who meet the criteria for funding through Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD).

The Specialized Services Program is primarily based in the family home but also includes community outings. Specific programming is tailored to the individual needs of each child and family with a goal of creating positive and meaningful interactions in the home, school and broader community. Play is used to engage children in the learning process and parents are supported in taking an active role in working towards program goals and advocating for their child at school and in the community.

Our transdisciplinary therapy team works with families to provide targeted supports and interventions across a wide range of areas including communication, socialization, self-care, adaptive functioning, regulation, and physical and motor development. Team members may include child development facilitators, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. Parent involvement is essential to program success.
