Welcome to the Parent Lounge

Welcome to Renfrew’s Parent Lounge—a place for parents to stay up to date on the latest news, policies, volunteer opportunities, events and activities at Renfrew. You’ll also find links to helpful resources that can enhance the classroom learning experience from home.

What to Expect

At Renfrew, we believe it’s important for parents to be actively involved in their child’s learning. After all, you are your child’s first teacher and daily role model, and you know your child best.

We encourage you to visit or volunteer in the classroom, accompany children on field trips, or help in any other capacity. Your insights and perspectives provide us with a deeper understanding of your child’s unique qualities and provide a richness to our learning programs. We also look to you to help evaluate and communicate how your child’s program is working for your family.

Thank you for being our partner in learning!

Upcoming Events

Throughout the year, Renfrew hosts many workshops and info sessions for parents and guardians. Learn more about these and other upcoming events in our online calendar and keep an eye out for announcements and reminders in the Treasures parent newsletter.

Helpful Resources

The Family Resources page of our website contains hundreds of helpful resources just for you—from playdough recipes and classroom songs to links and contact information for local organizations and specialized services.

Volunteer Opportunities

Parent volunteers help ensure we’re able to continue providing best-in-class learning programs that help children soar. Please check out the volunteer opportunities below and contact your child’s classroom teacher or school manager for more information. You’ll also want to look out for notices sent home inviting you to volunteer for field trips!

In the Classroom

You can volunteer in your child’s classroom on a drop-in or recurring basis. Recurrent volunteers will need to complete a Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Intervention Record Check with Alberta Children’s Services. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher to coordinate a schedule.

Please note: Siblings cannot be accommodated in our classrooms or on field trips. Parents are asked to arrange for childcare.

Parent Advisory Council

Each of our school locations has a Parent Advisory Council (PAC) which sets its own direction for the year with support from teaching staff and the school manager or principal. Most often the PAC plays an important role directing resources for special school learning experiences, such as field trips, special classroom visitors, after-school activities, and equipment. Each PAC meets monthly and all parents are invited to get involved by contacting the Manager at your child’s site.

Committees

Parent support of fundraising activities is essential to keeping Renfrew’s school fees as low as possible. These major events and projects require many volunteers and we simply couldn’t do it without the help of our parents.

Throughout the year, you will receive information about upcoming fundraisers and opportunities to get involved in our Treasures newsletter, as well as on Facebook, Twitter and through special flyers.

Please talk to the manager at your child’s school or contact us if you’re interested in helping out with fundraising activities or have a fundraising idea of your own. Charitable tax receipts are issued for all cash donations of $20 or more.

Your support is essential and extremely appreciated!
