Renfrew is pleased to offer a Saturday respite program for parents of children with disabilities. With a low child to staff ratio, Stepping Out on Saturdays (SOS) provides a fun and nurturing day for children, while giving parents some valuable reprieve.
SOS is run by trained Renfrew staff with experience working with children with special needs. Each Saturday offers a variety of play-centred activities, gross motor activities, and small group activities informed by each child’s strengths, needs and interests. Throughout the day, a wide range of strategies are used to introduce, model, and foster appropriate social and self-regulation skills.
Stepping Out on Saturdays runs 9:30am to 2:30pm select Saturdays from September through June. If available, FSCD funding typically covers $100.00/session. Parents are responsible for covering the remainder of the fees (calculated annually / approximately $50). To accommodate as many families as possible, parents are asked to choose one preferred location.
